Head of Infrastructure
Location: Latin America — Remote
Employment Type: Full-time
Level: Director — Hands-on Individual Contributor
Compensation: Up to $140,000 USD/year
Company Overview
We’re working with a technology company operating in a highly regulated environment, with strict requirements around security, compliance, and data protection.
The Challenge
We’re looking for a Head of Infrastructure to own and evolve the company’s entire infrastructure stack.
This is a hands-on role with Director-level ownership and no people-management responsibilities. You’ll build, secure, and scale production systems across AWS and GCP while defining the technical standards others will follow as the team grows.
Your scope will include multi-cloud architecture, Kubernetes operations, security and compliance, observability, incident response, and infrastructure automation.
Must Have
- Proven experience building and operating production infrastructure in regulated environments, with requirements such as HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR, or similar.
- Deep expertise with Kubernetes in production, including networking, scaling, upgrades, security hardening, and workload orchestration.
- Strong hands-on experience with both AWS and GCP.
- Production experience with Infrastructure as Code using Pulumi or equivalent tools, such as Terraform.
- Experience implementing security controls, audit practices, and data protection processes.
- Familiarity with zero-trust networking and secrets management.
- Experience defining observability standards across logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerting.
- Experience establishing incident response processes, including runbooks, on-call practices, and postmortems.
- Hands-on experience building or improving CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
- Recent experience as an individual contributor, with direct ownership of production systems.
Nice to Have
- Experience operating Kubernetes across multiple cloud providers.
- Technical leadership experience guiding and unblocking backend engineers who build infrastructure services.
- Hands-on production experience with graph databases such as Neo4j or Amazon Neptune.
- Hands-on production experience with document databases such as Firestore or MongoDB.
- Experience building self-service infrastructure tooling.
- Startup experience.
What Success Looks Like
- You take ownership and proactively identify and resolve technical risks.
- You balance security, reliability, portability, and cost when making architectural decisions.
- You know when to build internally and when to adopt vendor solutions.
- You communicate technical trade-offs clearly and establish standards that help other engineers succeed.
- You remain close to implementation while shaping the infrastructure’s long-term direction.
