Windows Endpoint Engineer / Agent Developer

Location: Remote (Worldwide)

Employment Type: Full-Time (Contract)

Compensation: USD $6,000–15,000/month

FitNext Exclusive: No

Company Overview

Our client is an early-stage cybersecurity startup building next-generation endpoint security technology powered by AI.

The company is developing a platform capable of detecting suspicious data movement directly on employee devices through advanced endpoint telemetry and intelligent threat detection. As one of the first engineering hires, you'll have the opportunity to own a critical piece of the product and work directly with the founding team on technical strategy and architecture.

Challenge

We are looking for a Windows Endpoint Engineer to design, build, and ship a production-grade Windows endpoint agent from the ground up. This role requires deep expertise in Windows internals, system APIs, and endpoint telemetry collection. You will own the architecture, implementation, deployment, and lifecycle of the agent while ensuring maximum system stability and performance.

You'll work directly with the founding team to define how telemetry is collected, processed, and streamed to an AI-powered detection platform. This is a highly autonomous role where technical leadership is just as important as hands-on implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain a production-grade Windows endpoint agent from architecture through deployment.
  • Implement safe and reliable system-level telemetry collection using Windows APIs and operating system internals.
  • Capture endpoint events including browser uploads, file movements, web searches, file renaming, and other indicators of suspicious activity.
  • Stream telemetry efficiently to backend services while minimizing system overhead.
  • Design deployment strategies including MDM policies, staged rollouts, update mechanisms, and rollback procedures.
  • Ensure the endpoint agent operates safely without causing crashes, performance degradation, or Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).
  • Reverse engineer and integrate Windows system APIs when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with the founding team on architecture decisions and technical strategy.
  • Document architecture, deployment processes, and operational best practices.

Must Have

  • 5+ years of professional experience building Windows system software or endpoint security products.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and shipping production Windows endpoint agents end-to-end.
  • Deep knowledge of Windows Internals, Windows APIs, kernel/user mode interactions, and system-level programming.
  • Strong experience collecting endpoint telemetry safely without compromising operating system stability.
  • Proficiency in Rust, or strong C++ experience with the ability and willingness to develop in Rust.
  • Experience deploying endpoint agents at customer scale, including MDM policy management, staged rollouts, and update delivery.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture for endpoint applications.

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience at endpoint security, DLP, EDR, or insider-risk companies.
  • Experience with products such as Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Cyberhaven, or Microsoft Defender.
  • Experience developing endpoint agents for both Windows and macOS.
  • Browser extension development experience.
  • Cross-platform telemetry collection experience.
  • Experience working in early-stage startups or founding engineering teams.
  • Reverse engineering experience.
  • Background in cybersecurity or endpoint protection technologies.

Soft Skills

  • Strong ownership mentality with the ability to independently lead critical engineering initiatives.
  • Excellent systems thinking and architectural decision-making skills.
  • Highly autonomous and comfortable operating in fast-moving startup environments.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities focused on reliability, performance, and stability.
  • Ability to mentor and collaborate closely with technical founders.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Attention to detail when working with low-level systems where reliability is critical.
  • Comfortable balancing speed of execution with production-quality engineering.

Benefits

  • Fully remote position (Worldwide).
  • Competitive compensation ranging from USD $6,000 to $15,000 per month, depending on location and experience.
  • Opportunity to become one of the first engineering hires at a Seed-stage cybersecurity startup.
  • High ownership over a mission-critical product component.
  • Direct collaboration with the founding team and influence over technical architecture.
  • Work on cutting-edge endpoint security, systems programming, and AI-powered cybersecurity technology.
  • Long-term growth opportunities as the engineering team scales.
