Senior Backend Engineer

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a fast-growing AI startup developing intelligent automation solutions for the healthcare industry.

In this role, you will lead the evolution of the backend platform, helping scale the system from its early stages to support hundreds of customers. You'll drive backend architecture, improve code quality, build scalable infrastructure, and mentor junior engineers while working directly with the founding team in a high-impact technical leadership position.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve backend architecture to support large-scale growth.
• Build scalable systems with a focus on concurrency, multi-tenancy, database architecture, and reliability.
• Refactor and improve the existing codebase for maintainability and performance.
• Design and maintain testing environments, monitoring, and logging infrastructure.
• Collaborate directly with the founders to translate product requirements into technical solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Contribute to engineering best practices, system reliability, and platform scalability.
• Participate in technical architecture and infrastructure decisions.

Must Have

• 8+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Proven experience scaling backend systems from early-stage products to production at scale.
• Strong knowledge of concurrency, multi-tenancy, database architecture, monitoring, and logging.
• Hands-on experience with Python, Node.js, and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
• Comfortable working across the company's technology stack, including backend, infrastructure, and desktop applications.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly.
• Fluent English and availability to collaborate during Pacific Time business hours.

Nice to Have

• Experience building AI voice agents or AI-powered applications in production.
• Experience with Tauri or Rust.
• Previous experience at an early-stage startup.
• Strong learning mindset with side projects or exploration of emerging technologies.
