Forward-Deployed Mobile Engineer
Location: Remote — LATAM
Employment Type: Full-time
Compensation: USD $6,000–$10,000/month
About the Company
We’re partnering with an a16z-backed startup building advertising infrastructure for AI entertainment, including gaming and apps where users interact with AI characters. Its technology is live in leading iOS, Android, and web apps, reaching more than 30 million users.
The company develops advertising SDKs, recommendation technology, and AI-generated playable and video ads. Its team brings experience from Google, PayPal, DraftKings, Blackstone, and Bain Capital, alongside three previous exits.
About the Role
As a Forward-Deployed Mobile Engineer, you’ll work directly with a major publisher partner: a consumer AI app with millions of daily users across iOS, Android, and web.
You’ll own the health and performance of its advertising stack, combining hands-on engineering, monetization experiments, and client collaboration. Your work will involve resolving production issues, improving integrations, and measuring how changes affect revenue, retention, and app stability.
You’ll collaborate with the publisher’s monetization lead and the startup’s founding team, including daily calls with a US-based team. All proposed changes go through the publisher’s review before release.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the advertising stack of a large React Native app using New Architecture across iOS and Android.
- Diagnose crashes, startup regressions, app hangs, watchdog kills, and Android ANRs across JavaScript, native modules, and third-party SDKs.
- Manage web advertising placements and integrations, including Google Ad Manager, header bidding, and Core Web Vitals as ads load.
- Design, launch, and analyze A/B tests covering ad placements, frequency caps, banner refresh, formats, and mediation.
- Balance monetization improvements with retention, session length, and production stability.
- Maintain and upgrade advertising SDKs, mediation partners, and demand integrations, resolving CocoaPods and Gradle dependency conflicts.
- Investigate changes in eCPM, fill rate, impressions, and revenue across platforms, geographies, and ad formats.
- Build dashboards, alerts, configuration tools, and scripts using React, Node.js, TypeScript, and SQL.
- Maintain runbooks and change logs to support handoffs and future publisher engagements.
Must Have
- 4+ years of experience shipping production mobile applications.
- Deep React Native experience across iOS and Android, including New Architecture, native modules, and bridging with Swift or Objective-C and Kotlin or Java.
- Strong React and TypeScript skills, with production experience on a large consumer web application.
- Backend experience with Node.js, TypeScript, SQL, and reporting APIs, with the ability to build internal tools independently.
- Hands-on ad monetization experience within consumer apps, including SDK integrations, mediation, and banner, native, interstitial, and rewarded formats.
- Experience with Google Mobile Ads, Google Ad Manager, AdMob, AppLovin MAX, Pangle, ironSource, or similar platforms.
- Experience designing and analyzing production A/B tests using Statsig or comparable tools, including guardrail metrics and clear reporting of results.
- Experience debugging crashes, app hangs, ANRs, and startup performance using Sentry, Crashlytics, Datadog, Bugsnag, or similar tools.
- Ability to symbolicate crash reports and interpret native stack traces.
- Strong written and spoken English for daily collaboration with a US-based team.
Nice to Have
- Experience at an ad network, mediation platform, or monetization team within a consumer or gaming app with a large daily active user base.
- Experience building or maintaining an advertising SDK or React Native wrappers around native SDKs.
- Familiarity with Google Ad Manager for web, Prebid, and header bidding.
- Knowledge of advertising privacy and consent frameworks, including ATT, TCF/GPP, and PPID.
- Previous client-facing, consulting, or forward-deployed engineering experience.
- Experience navigating large, unfamiliar codebases under production pressure.
